Instrumental Music Education Course

North Park University 2019
Instrumental Music Education Course
The master class involved coaching small chamber music ensembles and giving them technique and phrasing direction to allow for a cleaner performance. My lecture at the conclusion addressed the integration of chamber music in a public school orchestra program.

Cello Pedagodgy
Rebecca addressed with students different practice techniques that were successful to her as a Suzuki cello parent , orchestra director and private teacher.
Northwestern University 2003-2012
On a yearly basis Rebecca discussed her experience as a Northwestern undergraduate and masters student. Advice was given in regards to what worked for her and ultimately led to the acceptance of the Maine South High School Orchestra position. She also discussed the orchestra program and techniques in recruiting that ultimately led to the growth of more than 100 students in the program.
Illinois Music Educators Convention Panel 2013
Rebecca sat on a panel of seasoned teachers and discussed classroom management and the importance of having clear expectations and creating a safe learning environment where students can feel comfortable taking risks.
Roosevelt University 2002, 2005
Instrumental and Choral Education Course
The discussion for this course included: classroom management, repertoire choices, concert preparation and instrumental technique.
Midwest International Convention 2004
This was a panel for current and future educators and Rebecca discussed her experience as a new educator. Students inquired about her teaching and conducting techniques and she shared what she had learned to help them in the start of their careers.
Vandercook College of Music 2004
Rebecca discussed her experience as a new teacher and shared her handbook and classroom techniques that have been successful for her students.
Northwestern Convocation 2002
Rebecca was graduation speaker for the undergraduate class of 2002. To a crowd in Ryan Field she spoke about the importance of inclusion and how if there is a challenge one must not shy away. On campus she started a group called "Wheels of Change" where together with the university they collaborated on an effort to make the campus handicapped accessible. The organization that she spear headed, "Wheels of Change", is what led to the student body nomination to be class speaker.

Northwestern MSED K-12 Advisory Board 2015
Rebecca participated in a discussion about the current practices in preparing undergraduates for the field of education. The music education faculty presented their current practices and new additions to their programs. Rebecca shared her experience in having a student teacher and their level of preparation coming into my classroom.

District 7 ILMEA 2013-2015
Orchestra Representative
As orchestra representative Rebecca's responsibilities included running ILMEA auditions, choosing a conductor for the District 7 festival, assigning seating based on auditions, choosing excerpts and repertoire, and communicating with all high school orchestra programs on the North Shore.

Maine South Principal Advisory Committee 2014-2015

On the advisory committee teachers worked on a long term school plan that was teacher and student focused. The principal of Maine South High School took initiative to listen to teachers and discussed different department initiatives.
